Electroplating

Highest requirements for quality assurance in electroplating with Fischer measurement technology.

Quality assurance plays a central role in electroplating. On the one hand, this involves layer thickness measurement, material analysis and micro hardness testing of electroplated parts. On the other hand, quality control can also be used at a much earlier stage in the production process – namely to determine the metal ion concentration in the electroplating baths, which is decisive for the quality of the metallic coatings and must therefore remain within the narrowest tolerance limits.

With our wide-ranging Fischer product portfolio for coating thickness measurement, material analysis, nanoindentation and material testing, we offer particularly precise and durable measuring instruments that are specially designed to meet the requirements of electroplating and ensure uniform coating of parts with repeatable measurements.

Application examples

Classic electroplating
Bath analysis
Automation
Aluminum and anodized

As extensive as the requirements for electroplated surfaces are, as versatile is the spectrum of measuring tasks in classic electroplating. Fischer offers a comprehensive range of measuring solutions for this purpose. With our measuring devices, you can easily and non-destructively determine the phosphorus content of an electroless nickel coating or the coating thickness of a Cr/Ni/Cu coating on a wide variety of base materials, for example.

Electroplating processes must also meet certain quality control standards, such as ISO17025, IATF 16949 or IPC 4552A. With our measuring devices, you can carry out traceable and certified measurements and thus assure your customers of the quality and reliability of your processes.

Application Notes

The quality of metallic coatings depends to a large extent on the exact composition of the electrolyte solution. To monitor the metal ion concentration in the galvanic baths, wet chemical or electrochemical analysis methods are usually used, such as atomic absorption spectrometry (AAS) or inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometry (ICP-OES). However, these are time-consuming and cost-intensive.

Fischer offers a reliable and highly accurate alternative for this: non-destructive energy-dispersive X-ray fluorescence analysis (XRF). Fully automated or manually operated, Fischer measuring devices allow you to precisely measure and monitor your metallic bath solutions, such as zinc, nickel, zinc-nickel, gold, chromium, rhodium, palladium and many more.

Application Notes

Automated measuring instruments from Fischer can be integrated into your production process for testing electroplating coatings and baths. These are able to perform highly efficient, maximally precise and reliable measuring and provide real-time data. This allows you to continuously ensure compliance with tolerances and closely monitor the quality of your parts. For particularly expensive coatings such as gold or palladium, the return on investment of automated coating thickness measurement is especially short. If only a few micrometers of gold can be saved, the measuring instrument is amortized within a very short time and actively supports you in saving costs!

Application Notes

Due to their low weight, aluminum alloys and anodized aluminum are processed in numerous applications – especially for moving masses. For example, hard anodizing serves as surface protection in the automotive industry. The aim of anodizing is always to increase the resistance of aluminum or aluminum alloys as well as to set visual accents.

In order to be able to ensure the quality of aluminum alloys and anodized coatings, Fischer offers a range of measuring methods that enable detailed and non-destructive elemental analysis.
